ICOM-CC is coming to Norway

14 – 18 September 2026

Prepare for Oslo

We would like to share a few tips about your travel and where to find more information about your forthcoming stay in Oslo.

In Oslo, you are within walking distance of everything within the city centre. So, bring good walking shoes and skip the taxis.

Transportation from the airport

The quickest and cheapest way to get into Oslo city centre from the airport is by train. The closest train station to the Oslo Congress Centre/Folkets hus is Oslo Central Station. The hotels we will recommend will be within walking distance of the Central Station or the National Theatre station.

We do not recommend taking a taxi from the airport unless you agree on a set price first.
You could also take the Airport Express Coach (Flybussen), some of the lines go directly to some chosen hotels in Oslo.

The hotels we will recommend will be within walking distance of the Central Station or the National Theatre station.

Train (The best option)

Airport Express Train

Flytoget

  • Takes around 19-22 minutes to reach Oslo Central Station.
  • Runs every 10-20 minutes, making it a very convenient option.
  • Tickets can be bought online or at the airport for approximately 210 NOK.
  • For more details, visitors can check the Flytoget website.
Local Trains

VY

  • Slightly slower but more affordable than the Flytoget.
  • Travel time is approximately 23 minutes to Oslo Central Station.
  • Cost is around 110 NOK, offering great value for budget travelers.
  • Tickets can be purchased at ticket machines or through the VY website.

Proximity to Venue: The Oslo Congress Centre/Folkets Hus is within walking distance from Oslo Central Station, so this is an ideal option for most attendees.

Alternative transportation

Use with caution

Taxi

We do not recommend taking a taxi from the airport unless you agree on a set price in advance. Taxis can be quite expensive, with fares ranging from 800-1,000 NOK or more, depending on traffic and the company. If attendees still choose this option, they should ensure they use a reputable taxi service like Norgestaxi or Oslo Taxi, which offers fixed rates.

Flybussen

Airport Express Coach

An alternative is the Airport Express Coach (Flybussen), which may suit attendees staying at specific hotels in Oslo. Several Flybussen routes stop directly at major hotels across the city, including areas near the Oslo Central Station and National Theatre Station. Tickets are approximately 180 NOK, and the journey takes around 45 minutes depending on traffic.

A detailed timetable and more information can be found on the Flybussen website.

Seasonal information

The temperature in September can get chilly in the evenings so bring both a warm jacket and sunglasses. Still, the autumn temperature is no hinder for you to take a swim in the Oslo fjord.

Remember to bring your swimming suit. Or you maybe you wish to go kayaking?

Local food

Every year for two weeks in September, the restaurant Sjømagasinet hosts the Crab Festival. Guests can enjoy fresh and hearty Hitra crabs, along with bread, salad, and other sides. The crabs are served buffet-style, allowing you to eat as much as you want. This is a popular, fun, and, above all, tasty experience for everyone who loves crabs.
